Subject: Tufts University Prison Initiative at Tisch College (TUPIT)
Description:
The Tufts University Prison Initiative at Tisch College (TUPIT) connects Tufts students (undergraduate and graduate) and faculty members and staff with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals to raise awareness about and create efforts to address the problems of mass incarceration, especially as they intersect with education. One manifestation of this mission is the offering of Tufts courses in correctional facilities. These are taught by Tufts professors, and in some but not all cases include an Inside-OutTM course, The Literature of Confinement, which is comprised of an equal number of Tufts non-incarcerated and incarcerated students. TUPIT is also involved in participatory research on the intersection of higher education and incarceration, as the basis of program assessment.
